APRC Symposium: Plastic Circularity in the Asia Pacific Region
Join us for our live panel discussion on Plastic Circularity in the Asia-Pacific Region.
The Asia Pacific Research Centre, College of Human and Social Futures and Environmental Plastic Innovation Cluster is delighted to present this lively and informative symposium and panel discussion covering plastics, plastic pollution and the role of government and business in tackling plastic pollution in the Asia Pacific Region.
The symposium will take place on Wednesday, 2 August 2023 at NUspace in Room X-320 on level 3, from 1:00-2:30pm. For those unable to attend in person, a Zoom link will be provided closer to the event.

Plastic is causing harm to our planet. While plastics benefit society their production, use, and disposal pollute the environment and pose risks to human and animal health, causing biodiversity loss and water stress. Plastic pollution is altering habitats and natural processes and reducing the ecosystem’s ability to adapt to climate change. These changes are exacerbating poverty and inequality, food production capabilities and livelihoods. These adverse effects of plastic pollution have prompted a collaborative effort to evaluate the impact of plastic pollution and implement effective strategies aimed at shifting from a linear to a circular economy. Governments, businesses, and society all have a role to play in achieving this transformational change. Our panel discussion will explore some critical issues relating to plastic circularity in the Asia Pacific Region.
Professor Frank Agbola, Director of the Asia Pacific Research Centre, Newcastle Business School, College of Human and Social Futures at the University of Newcastle, Australia, will welcome participants and host the event.
