Master of Disaster Resilience and Sustainable Development

CIFAL Newcastle’s new Masters’ degree equips people from diverse backgrounds to understand resilience and sustainable development principles, and systematically apply them to the design of community organisations, the built environment, enterprises, and social/economic. Their work will improve organisations’ capacity to operate through extreme events and emerge better placed to face the future.

Your training incorporates the application of internationally ratified tools and frameworks developed by the United Nations to public, private, NGO and civil society organisations. These cover sustainable development (UN Sustainable Development goals) and disaster risk reduction (Sendai framework for DRR). Upon graduation you will receive UN co-certification in this training, in addition to their degree, from the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).

The program combines flexibility (available both online and face-to-face campus), relevance (staff who have extensive experience in disaster relief, reconstruction and resilience building) and employability (of potential benefit to any organisation that recognises the need to build its resilience capacity for the future).

Graduates will be capable of conducting disaster risk evaluations, and guiding the subsequent development of disaster risk mitigation and management strategies for the organisation in which they work. A major focus of the Graduate Certificate training is the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda (learn more about the SDGs here).

Our advanced online learning system, together with that of UNITAR provides you with the flexibility and support to study any time, anywhere to balance work, life and study.
